Matthew J. Karol Sr., 80, of Attleboro, a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, in Sturdy Memorial Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Irene F. (Nicewicz) Karol. Born in Taunton, he was a son of the late Edward and Anne (Gubala) Karol. Matthew was a graduate of Taunton High School. He served his country proudly as a member of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Matthew worked for many years as a commercial artist for Linbloom Graphics, Bo-Bernstein's WPRO, and The Providence Journal prior to retirement. A nature lover, he enjoyed gardening and working around his house. He also enjoyed playing his guitar. Matthew was a family man who was always thoughtful of others. Matthew is survived by two sons, Gregory Karol and his wife Beverly of Norton and Matthew Karol Jr. and his wife Melandie of South Attleboro; a brother, John Karol of Taunton; and four grandchildren: Kristy, Kimberly, Kerry, and Matthew Karol III. Matthew was the brother of the late Joseph, Walter, Ted, Thomas, and Frank Karol, Stephanie Mendes and Viola Karol. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro, where the Karol family will receive friends on Thursday, Oct. 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral will be conducted on Friday, Oct. 21 at 9 a.m., from the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main St., Attleboro, celebrated by Rev. Richard Roy, pastor. Matthew will be laid to rest in St. John's Cemetery, Attleboro. In lieu of flowers and for those wishing to remember Matthew in a special way, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to: Hillside Adult Day Care Center, 50 Walton Street, Attleboro, MA 02703.
