Dr. Matthew J. Kauffman

Matthew Joel Kauffman D.O. was 49 when he was taken from us unexpectedly February 2, 2023. Matt was outgoing, sincere and kind; the type that never had a bad thing to say about a person and never met a stranger. He grew up in the Columbus area and graduated from Columbus Academy, Bradley University, and The University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine. He did his residency at Grandview Hospital and practiced medicine for over 20 years in Circleville, Logan, and Xenia as an Orthopedic Surgeon.
Matt was a simple, down to earth guy who would rather wear shorts despite the weather, danced badly, and was the master of random facts. He loved bad 80's rock, all movies, and cooking, but he loved his family most. Matt and his wife Tera were married for over 20 years and have five kids; Shane, Avi, Noa, Van, and Kai. He was an incredible husband and a fantastic father who learned more about esports, anime, cosplay, and field hockey just to spend more time with them. He was more than a father; he was also a sparring partner, cheerleader, agony aunt, and friend to those closest to him.
Matt was preceded in death by his father Edward Kauffman and now leaves behind his mother Roberta Kauffman; brothers, Jeffrey (Stephanie) Kauffman and Steve (Angela) Kauffman; mother-in-law, Luisa (Tom) Whalen; father-in-law, Richard Brightman; brother-in-law, Shawn (Chelsea) Brightman; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Matt was a bright light that touched many lives. He loved freely, wholly, and unconditionally and will be missed.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 PM on Sunday, February 12th at Temple Beth Shalom, 5089 Johnstown Road, New Albany.
