SOUTH GLEN FALLS - Matthew Richard Linehan, 61, passed away suddenly at his home on January 17, 2026.

Born on March 18, 1964, in Glens Falls, N.Y., Matt was the beloved son of the late John "Jack" and Joan Linehan. He was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy, Class of 1982, and Hudson Valley Community College. During his high school years, Matt proudly played both football and baseball.

At just 19 years old, Matt began his career with Niagara Mohawk (later National Grid of Saratoga). Starting as a meter reader and working his way up to the position of Chief Natural Gas Mechanic.

Matt was a devoted and passionate fan of The Grateful Dead. For more than 40 years, he followed the music he loved, traveling across the country and attending countless shows. After Jerry Garcia's passing his enthusiasm extended to many iterations of the band, including The Other Ones, Phil Lesh and Friends, Furthur, RatDog, and Dead & Company. He was also an avid and lifelong fan of the New York Mets.

In his younger years, Matt enjoyed skiing throughout the Northeast and out West in California.

At heart, he was a generous and kind soul. One of his greatest joys was dressing up as Santa Claus and visiting family members' homes on Christmas Eve, delighting loved ones with surprise and laughter.

Matt lived life with a free spirit, and his family will always cherish memories of many vacations together-trips to Maine, Nova Scotia, Chincoteague Island, camping adventures in Lake George, and the countless funny stories that came from those times.

He was predeceased by his parents, as well as his uncle, Dick; and aunt, Agnes.

Left to cherish Matt's memory are his loving and devoted wife of 33 years, Jean Linehan; his brother, Michael Linehan (Patty); his stepchildren, Benjamin Comish (Rebecca) and Jennifer Dumas (Blake); his nephew, Shane Linehan; and his niece, Shannon Linehan. He is also survived by his cherished step grandchildren, Harrison and Sarah Comish and Lincoln Dumas.

Friends and family may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026, at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home 136 Main St. South Glens Falls, NY 12803.

A funeral service will be conducted following the calling hours at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rite of committal will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in South Glens Falls in the spring.
