Obituary of Matthew Richard Lucero
Loving father, husband, and son Matthew Richard Lucero passed away on November 7, 2023, following a 5-year struggle with heart failure related to antiphospholipid syndrome.
Matthew was born to Dan and Deborah Lucero on December 30, 1972, in Rocky Ford, Colorado. He was the first grandchild on the Lucero side. At just 6 months old, he won first place in the local baby contest. He was so adorable! He loved his younger brothers, Brandon and Craig.
Matthew's family moved to Loveland in 1978. He attended local schools and graduated from Loveland High School in 1991. Matt loved sports, playing the drums, and hanging out with friends growing up. While diving for Loveland High, he received the Colorado State Diver of the Year 1991 award. Following graduation, he attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
Matt married his high school sweetheart, Hayley Blanton, on June 4, 1995, in Loveland. Their first home was in Milliken and then they returned to Loveland to raise their family. They have three children Eddy, Evan, and Emi.
Matt owned his own construction/siding business prior to the birth of his last child, when he became a full time stay at home dad and the household manager. He was always willing to help with rides to school, after-school clubs, and anything else that needed taken care of. He had a special place in his heart for his niece and nephew, Lila and Liam White, who spent lots of time at the Lucero house growing up.
Matt loved his children and family, music, laughing, Pokémon Go, Marvel, road trips, and the Renaissance Festival.
Matthew is preceded in death by: Maternal grandparents, Sally Cartee and Leroy Wille; Paternal grandfather Tony Renon; Uncles Billy Lucero and Mike Frazzini; Aunt Janna Klussmann; and Cousin Brittany Renon.
Matthew is survived by: wife Hayley and children Eddy, Evan, and Emi; Parents Dan and Deborah; Brothers Brandon (Lisa) and Craig (Jamie); Grandmother, Arlene Renon; In-laws Bill and Marla Blanton and all his Blanton sisters: Heather, Holly (Mike), Hope (Eric), Heidi (Tyler) and his little shrimp brother Heath (Kayla). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends that he cared about very much. He will be greatly missed by his loyal doggy companions, Rupert and Casper.
Matt will be remembered for the big heart he had- he loved many and helped many. His Mattitude and loving grumpy demeaner were second to none.
A service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church (815 East 16 Street, Loveland, CO) on Sunday November 19 at 2pm.
Donations may be made in Matt's honor to the APS (Antiphospholipid Syndrome) Foundation of America or the Larimer County Humane Society.
