On December 23, 2024, Matthew M. Rakentzes, long time educator and school principal, passed away peacefully at his home in Timonium, MD. He was the beloved son of the late Michael T and Helen M. Rakentzes; devoted husband of the late Barbara Lee Rakentzes (nee Bernhardt); dear brother of late Marcella Dellis, and Grace Georgandis, and the late Stamatis (Tom) Rakentzes; Matthew is also survived by his nephew Michael Dellis, Elaine Dellis-Walle, Elaine Georgandis and Eugina Georgandis Carter and loving god-son Peter Bisbikis and his wife Eleni.
Having Graduated from Baltimore City College, Matthew graduated from Towson State Teacher's College as an educator and then joined the army services for two years.
As an educator, Matthew taught forth and fifth grades at Glenmar Elementary School. Matthew then worked as a Guidance Counselor at Glenmar Elementary. He was also Assistant Principle at Chase and Cromwell Valley elementary schools.
He was then principle for several years at Oakleigh elementary and retired having served the Baltimore County Public Schools for twenty-eight years. In his retirement, Matthew along with Barbara enjoyed travelling.
Mr. Rakentzes will lie-in-state at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2504 Cub Hill Rd., Parkville, MD 21234, on Monday, December 30, 2024, from 10:00-10:30am at which time the funeral service will begin at 10:30am. The interment will follow at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.

Matthew I just came across your obituary today 1/24/2025. Wish I had known sooner so I could have attended your services so I could have thanked your family for including my sister Barbara as part of your family and allowing her to include her sister Diana in your holiday celebrations.
