Matthew R. Verde, a cherished husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed away suddenly due to injuries sustained in an accident at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois. Born on September 5, 1975, in Melrose Park, Illinois, Matt's journey through life was marked by his generous spirit, friendly demeanor, and selfless nature.
Matt's early years were spent in Elmhurst, where he attended and graduated from Immaculate Conception in 1993. His sense of duty and love for his country led him to join the United States Marines after high school, where he served with distinction and had the opportunity to spend time in Japan and Russia. His experiences in the service shaped the man he would become, instilling in him a deep sense of discipline and commitment to the welfare of others.
After his honorable discharge, Matt's passion for hospitality and culinary excellence led him to the restaurant industry. He began his career at Rock Bottom, the very place where he first met and became friends with Jennifer. Their friendship evolved into a relationship that became a testament to true love and mutual respect. They married on April 24, 2009. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and shared dreams.
Matt's professional journey continued at Capital Grill and U.S. Foods before he realized his dream of opening his own restaurant, Neat Kitchen & Bar in Westmont with his childhood best friend. His entrepreneurial spirit didn't stop there; he recently opened a second location in Oswego. His establishments were more than just businesses; they were extensions of his generous personality, places where he made everyone feel welcome and valued.
A pillar in his community, Matt immersed himself in the lives of those around him. He gave back generously to the Westmont community through fundraisers and donations and quickly became a key figure in the Oswego business community. His involvement was not for recognition but stemmed from a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
Being a father was Matt's greatest joy. He reveled in every moment spent with his children, Austin and Savannah. Whether cheering on Austin at football games or supporting Savannah at cheerleading events, he was the quintessential proud dad. His love for his family was the cornerstone of his life.
Matt is survived by his devoted wife, Jennifer; his adoring children, Austin and Savannah; his parents, Robert (Amelia) Verde and Teresa Verde; his siblings, Sara (fiancé Russell Mowry) Falk, Timothy (Jill) Verde, Beth Smith, and stepbrother T.J. (Lisa) Holgado. He was a beloved son-in-law to Janet (Lou) Wright and Mick (Peggy) Skott, a caring brother-in-law to Adam (Rachel) Skott, Lisa (Chris) Sabol, and Kelly (Joe) Zavala, Michael (Christina) Wright and Cody Wright, a kind nephew to his aunts and uncles and a fun-loving uncle to many nieces and nephews who will miss his playful spirit. Matt leaves behind so many friends and acquaintances that treasured his presence and ability to make them feel like they were family.
Matt touched the lives of everyone he met with his warm smile and open heart. His legacy will live on in the memories of those who loved him and the community he served so passionately. Matt's passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him to live life with the same generosity and love that he embodied every day.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Verde family to help cover college expenses for Austin and Savannah.

I had the sincere pleasure of meeting Matt on a few different occasions at events he so graciously hosted at his location in Westmont. Our company held a holiday party there last year and Matt made sure it was such an amazing experience for our staff. He was such a kind and generous man. Our condolences to his family, friends, and community. We are so incredibly sorry for your loss.
