Matthew Bryant Williams | "Cousin" Williams
Matthew "Cousin" Bryant Williams, 48, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2024 in Tallahassee, Florida.
Matthew was born on August 24, 1975 in Tallahassee, Florida to Kim Bryant Williams and Janet Gibby Williams. Matthew, loved by a community of friends, family, artists and musicians, was a soul who embarked on journeys through the realms of the outdoors and art. He was an avid hunter, a spectacular fisherman, an artist, and music man extraordinaire. He was a true connoisseur of the tides, navigating through life on the waves of creativity.
Beyond his pursuits on the water and in the woods, Matthew found his energy through the vibrations of the artistic universe. He exhibited a flair for creativity in the kitchen and on the grill, and he generously shared his culinary skills with friends and family. He was also an incredibly talented visual and musical artist; his original paintings and music leave a lasting reminder of his creative genius for family and friends to cherish.
Matthew's affection for his nieces and nephew ran deep. Some of his happiest moments were spent celebrating birthdays and significant milestones with them.
Matthew will be remembered for his heart of gold, his charismatic and larger than life personality, his ability to make you think, a sense of humor that always lit up a room, and always being willing to help out no matter what.
Rest easy, Matthew; you will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his father Kim Bryant Williams (and wife Mayda) of Tallahassee; his mother Janet Gibby Willliams of Tallahassee; his sister Johanna Money (and husband Jake); his brother Andrew Williams (and wife Marlene); his step-sister Tracey Cohen (and husband Jeremy); his nieces Lily & Everett Money, Mae Williams, and Molly & Paige Cohen; his nephew Andrew Williams, Jr.; his maternal grandfather John Frances Gibby of Dallas, Texas; an army of Williams / Ott / Gardner cousins; and a host of friends that were like family. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Hugh Elton Williams, Jr. & Marie Daughtry Williams, and his maternal grandmother Mabel Kunce Gibby.
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, January 18 at 2pm at Saint Paul's United Methodist Church, 1700 North Meridian Road, Tallahassee, FL. Visitation will follow immediately after the service at the church. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Matthew, take a friend fishing.

I've known Matt since probably 2nd or 3rd grade. He's always been one of a kind. He could be big, loud and sometimes shocking. He could also be caring kind and deep-thinking. He was at home in the woods, on the water or behind a guitar. His rebel spirit and sense of justice could literally have him carrying crosses to protest an unfairness.
I think my best memory is from a friend's wedding at the Wakulla Lodge. There's a grand piano in the main room and Matt sat down to tickle the ivories. I don't think I've ever seen him shine so brightly. He nailed every song, had the whole room singing along, hit the high notes and the lows. It was magical. He was one of a kind.

We met Matt about 2 years ago through our son who had been friends with him a long time. Our son was very sick and in need of help, and Matt showed up to help him through his troubles by driving him to Shands Hospital and guiding him through his trials. We will always value Matt's friendship and deeply regret his loss. God bless him and all who were lucky enough to know him. Kathie Lamarche

I met Matt in 2001 at Love´s garage. I was new to Tallahassee and only knew a few people there. I went to grab some VW parts and while there I heard this loud and boisterous voice telling fish stories, particularly Redfish. So I walked over and asked where could I go and catch a redfish. He looked me up and down then said, "I can´t tell you where exactly but for 1 dollar I will draw you a map." So I put my money on the table and got a pen and paper for Matt. The next day I found myself next to the channel marker and the oyster bar on my map and shortly there after had my limit of redfish. Thus began my 23 year friendship with Matt Williams.
