Matthew Papez Zuerlein, 32, of Little Rock, left his earthly home and secured his heavenly home on August 3, 2024. His faith in Jesus Christ as his Redeemer had been publicly declared. Matthew succumbed to an accidental overdose. He gave the gift of life to many as his final heroic act, through ARORA organ and tissue donation.
Matthew graduated from Little Rock Christian Academy in 2011, and then Pulaski Tech with a certificate in Mechanics. His true gifting was in the food and hospitality industry. He distinguished himself in several of the Keet family establishments where he found extraordinary kindness and love. Most recently Matt worked in sales with Elevate Roofing.
Matthew is survived by his beloved wife Kate, and precious son Worth Joseph Zuerlein, age 5. He held them both as the two greatest gifts in his life, and spoke that often; his parents Terrance and Nancy Zuerlein; life-long cherished identical twin brother Andrew (Joy and son Noah); older brother Benjamin (Savannah and son Tadhg); younger sister Ellie (Jordan and son Whit); and a host of uncles, aunts and cousins who all loved him deeply.
Matthew’s friends were many and they loved him well. They describe him as gregarious, loyal, and really fun and funny. Favorites included “He would light up a room!” and “He could bring joy and laughter to a rock!”
Matthew was passionate about all things sports. In his early school years he excelled in football, basketball and soccer. In high school he was a varsity wrestler. Later, he was an avid golfer. He enjoyed Fantasy Football leagues and was the current holder of a very large traveling trophy in that. His NCAA football games with twin Andrew and others were epic.
Matthew struggled with addiction. He had many victorious years of sobriety. His family finds great hope in knowing that his eternal destination is secure, and we look forward to a coming day of sweet reunion. The only surrender in Matt’s life that ever mattered was his surrender to his Savior, Jesus Christ. Go rest high on that mountain, Matthew. Heaven is yours as a sealed and guaranteed inheritance.
Memorial service will be at Fellowship Bible Church, Kirk Road, on Friday August 9, 2024. Visitation at 10 AM and service at 11 AM. Burial to occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the “Worth Joseph Zuerlein Educational Fund” has been established at First Community Bank, 17820 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, AR 72223. Contributions may be made online through Zelle at 501-240-8224 for “Worth Zuerlein”.
