Mattie Pearl Wright

Mattie Pearl (Jones) Wright, of Springfield, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at her home on December 4, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Mattie was born in Woodruff, South Carolina, to the late Edward B. Jones and Lucy (Mayes)Jones. She was raised and educated in Woodruff before moving to the Springfield area, where she settled and devoted her life to raising her family. A woman of strong faith, Mattie was known for her deep love for her family and her special affection for children. She generously babysat any child whenever she had the opportunity, welcoming them with warmth and care. She also found great joy in being outdoors, especially tending to her garden. Mattie is survived by her son, Lewin Wright, Jr., and his wife, Brenda, of Springfield; two daughters, Sandra Turner of Springfield and Dorothy Wright of Springfield; as well as 12 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished deeply. In addition to her parents, Mattie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Lewin G. Wright; a son, Clifford L. Wright; a daughter, Patricia A. Brewer; five brothers, Archie Jones, David Jones, Arthur Jones, Willie Lawrence Jones, and Edward Jones; and two sisters, Garrie Shand and Viola Martin. Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, December 19, 2025, at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, MA, 01118, for a calling hour from 10AM to 11AM., followed by a funeral service at 11AM. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Springfield, Massachusetts.
