Maureen Gurnari, 65, of Scranton, died Friday at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. She and her husband, John P. "Jack" Gurnari, celebrated 44 years of marriage on Feb. 24. They were together for over 50 years.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Thomas J. and Shirley Gerrity Joyce, she was a graduate of Scranton Central High School class of 1976.
Maureen loved to read, and her favorite hobby was gardening. You could always find her outside on a nice day digging in the dirt and planting beautiful flowers. The one thing she was more passionate about was being a mother. She dedicated her life to her children. She went to every field trip or sporting event for them while they were growing up, rain or shine. Her biggest joy, though, came later in life when she became "Gigi." She adored her grandchildren more than anything and loved spending time with them. She loved doing anything with them from singing songs on the swings at the park, to doing puzzles on the floor.
Also surviving are a son, Jonathan Gurnari and partner, Kim Hua, of Wyoming, Pa.; a daughter, Sara Brzuchalski and husband, Nick, of Jermyn; grandchildren, Emily and Thomas Brzuchalski; her brother, Michael Joyce, of Plymouth; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Patricia.
