Maureen Meyer

Maureen Meyer, 91, of Greenwood, Indiana passed away on September 23, 2024. She was born on April 1, 1933, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late John & Bridget Leahy. She was a beacon of love and nurturing, a devoted mother who dedicated her life to raising her children with an unwavering spirit and a kind heart. Maureen was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Indianapolis for 67 years.

For Maureen, the heart of her home was a sacred space where love was manifested through the warmth of family gatherings and the joy of shared meals. The holidays were particularly special to her, and it was not uncommon to hear laughter echoing through the house while the food—always dubbed “Maureen Hot”—brought everyone together. Her famed Christmas stockings will always be carried on.

Maureen’s warmth extended well beyond her kitchen. She possessed a genuine sweetness, courtesy, and kindness that touched the lives of everyone she met. "Oh, God love you," was a cherished phrase she often shared, reflecting her boundless compassion. Always ready to champion the underdog, she had a unique ability to find joy in the successes of others, celebrating their victories as if they were her own.

Her life was interwoven with the footsteps of her beloved family. Maureen took immense pride in being actively involved in her children’s and grandchildren's lives. She could frequently be found cheering them on at school events, baking her famous potato chip cookies, sharing in their triumphs and lending support through every endeavor. Her love in their lives was palpable and left an indelible mark on their hearts.

Maureen also cherished her own pursuits. For many years, she was a cherished member of their Euchre Club, where friendships blossomed over cards, laughter, and sometimes a little friendly rivalry. Morning walks and coffee with friends at the mall became a cherished ritual for her, a time to reflect and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

Married for an incredible 67 years to her devoted husband, John, Maureen graciously catered to his needs. Their bond was a beautiful testament to partnership and deep affection, grounded in years of shared faith, love, and cherished memories.

Maureen is survived by her loving husband of 67 years; John Meyer, her brother, Tom Leahy; children; Kim (Ed) Siegfried, Marty (Bernadette) Meyer, Pat (Michelle) Meyer, and Mike (Tina) Meyer, grandchildren; Kristen (Jeremy) Baynai, Colleen (Kyle) Roach, Megan (Robert) Judith, Bridget Meyer, John Meyer, Nick Meyer, Michaela (Dan) Barnett, Cat Meyer, Lia Meyer, & Eva Meyer, great-grandchildren; Spencer, Teagan, Charlie, Jameson, Annie, Emilia, Wrenly, Harper, & Aria, along with numerous nieces & nephews.

Maureen is preceded in death by her brother; John Leahy & sister-in-law; Pat Leahy.

As we gather to honor her remarkable life, there will be a visitation on September 26, 2024, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at O’Riley - Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Indianapolis. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 AM on September 27, 2024, at St. Jude Catholic Church, also in Indianapolis. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
