Maureen Agnes (Driscoll) Savastano, 87, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2025, at Prescott House in North Andover, surrounded by her loving family. Maureen, the eldest daughter of the late Michael and Veronica (Holland) Driscoll, was born in Lawrence on October 19, 1937. As a young child, Maureen moved from Methuen to Lawrence, where she resided for the rest of her lifetime. Her life was a beautiful testament to love, family, dedication and quiet strength.
From a young age, Maureen's nurturing spirit was evident. She attended Saint Rita's School and graduated from Saint Mary High School in 1955, later earning her bachelor's degree from Merrimack College and a master's from Salem State University. These accomplishments marked the beginning of a lifelong passion: teaching. For more than two decades, Maureen shaped young minds as an elementary school teacher in Lawrence Public Schools. She was especially proud to pilot Lawrence's first 204 classroom, a role that spoke to her innovative and devoted nature. In 1986, she transitioned to leadership as a grant writer and administrator, eventually retiring as Director of Human Resources in 1998, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, fairness, and excellence.
In December 1959, Maureen met her one true love, Albert J. Savastano, whom she married in September 1962. Their love and partnership defined much of her life. Together, they raised four children, each of whom always knew the unwavering love and support of their mother. She encouraged them to work hard and always follow their dreams. Maureen poured her heart into her family. Whether serving as a den mother, cheering from the sidelines, or sitting on league boards, she was always present, a steadfast advocate, an encouraging voice, and their greatest cheerleader.
Her love multiplied as grandchildren and great-grandchildren entered her life. "Grammy" was a constant source of warmth and encouragement, from handmade knitted blankets to proud applause at recitals and games. Her grandchildren never doubted how deeply they were loved.
Maureen and Al shared many adventures together. They found joy in travel; one of their favorite destinations was St. Martin, where they made lasting friendships and countless memories. They enjoyed yearly road trips to Florida and visiting the casinos at Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods, and Atlantic City. More recently, when travel became difficult, Maureen looked forward to her day trips to Encore. Yet, no place brought Maureen more peace than Seabrook Beach. She could often be found sitting in her favorite beach chair with her feet in the sand and sun on her face. She cherished quiet moments on the front porch, saying her prayers or reading a good book, but her favorite times were spent making lasting memories with family and friends.
Maureen leaves behind a family who will carry her memory with deep love and gratitude: children Maureen and husband George Abdallah of Methuen, Albert and wife Kelley (Bernard) of Seabrook, Lisa and husband Douglas Brady of Bradford, and Patricia and her partner Denise (Turilli) of Lawrence; treasured grandchildren Nicholas and fiancee Gianna, Jeffrey and wife Meaghan, Jared and wife Kasey, Travis, Trevor and significant other Gina, Veronica, Albert, Michael, David and fiancee Meghan, Elizabeth, Victoria, Justin, and Jacob; cherished great-grandchildren Dylan, Blake, Maelyn, Nolan, Tyson, Delaney, Cooper, Colette, Juliette, and Eli; sisters Sheila Grimes of Windsor, CT, and Kathleen and husband Thomas Williams of North Andover; sister-in-law Olga Grossi of Methuen; and several generations of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, Maureen was welcomed into eternal peace by her wonderful parents-in-law Alberico and Assunta (DeLuca) Savastano; brothers Michael and Kevin Driscoll; brothers- and sisters-in-law Robert Grimes, Charles and his wife Emma (Diodati) Savastano, Harry and his wife Carmela (Casale) Savastano, America (Maggie) Savastano, Guido (Jack) and his wife Victoria (Franciose) Savastano, Dante Savastano, Roland (Ben) and his wife Lillian (Chateauneuf) Savastano, Edmund and his wife Orsola (Sasso) Savastano, Lucy and her husband Lucien Charette, Maria Angela Savastano, Concetta (Connie) and her husband Vasco Cunha, and Philip Grossi; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Maureen's life was one of quiet devotion, steady love, and radiant generosity. Her legacy will live on in every heart she touched, in every family gathering, every shared story, and every cherished memory. She was deeply loved and will be missed beyond words.
