Maurice Winsor was born October 22, 1934 in St John's, Newfoundland, Canada to a fishing family. He lived with his grandparents when he was young. He had two older brothers, Lloyd and Harold and a younger sister, Eleanor. At the age of 13, the family moved to Brooklyn, New York looking for a better life.
When he was 16, his brother Harold died fighting in Korea. Harold went by the name Chuck but after his passing, Maurice started going by the name Chuck. At 17, Chuck joined the Air Force and was sent to Germany after basic training. While he was there, he became an American citizen. While stationed in Newfoundland Canada, he met his wife, Verna Hunter. They had three children, Sandra, Scott and Shawn. He loved to take family trips exploring his adopted country. When Verna became ill, he took care of her until she passed at the age of 69.
He served in the US Air Force for 20 years and worked another 22 years teaching logistics to the Navy. After he retired from the Air Force, he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Education and later earned Education Specialist. He became a Mason in Casselberry, Florida in 1983 and was also an active member of the Bahia Shrine Club, serving in many different capacities over the years including President and Secretary. He actively worked out at the gym. He loved the Denver Broncos, John Wayne, watching western movies, playing golf and spending time with friends and family. He was a member of the VFW, Moose Lodge and Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He enjoyed playing poker and cards with his friends. He was a dedicated member of Christ United Fellowship Church in DeLand and loved his church family. He believed in Our Lord and Savior.
In his later years, he met a new love and promptly married her. His family grew even bigger adding a new set of children, nieces, nephews and friends. Each one got to know him and loved him wholeheartedly. Donna made the last years some of the best of his life. They spent their time together dancing, being with family, attending church and happily loving each other.
He is survived by: his loving wife, Donna; his 3 children: Sandra (Kyle), Scott (Kristy), Shawn (Kira), his 5 grandchildren: Amanda (Matthew), Haleigh (Austin), Kymberly (Jake), Heather (Isaac) and Aiden; his 3 great grandchildren: Hunter, Makenzie and Lucas.
He will be interred at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. Arrangements will be posted here when the date and time are finalized.
A few lines on paper are never enough to sum up a man's life. If you knew him, you will understand. However, a few words to describe him are kind, loving, honorable, dedicated and faithful. He always said, "Don't worry about little things, just throw it over your shoulder. It will all be ok."
We will miss him always.
To honor his military service, Maurice will be buried at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell located at 6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, FL 33513-8914, on Monday, July 14 at 10am.
