Shannon Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Town ChapelMavis Pitts Hensley, widow of Judge Robert E. Hensley was born in Portland, Florida on November 14,1927 to Elizabeth Hobbs and James PItts. She went to heaven to be with Jesus and her family there on March 26, 2026.
She is survived by her children, Susan Jones (K. S. “Butch” ), Sarah Hornsby (Gary), Carol Day and Alan Hensley. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ryan Parantha(Mara), Dylan Hornsby, Morgan Hornsby, Keeley Day, Caleb Hensley, Madison Hensley, Hunter Hensley, Ken Jones(Marisa), Pam Faulkner(Bill). She is survived by great grandchildren Riley Hornsby, Cayla Hornsby, Chloe Hornsby, Brielle Parantha, Sheldon Faulkner(Stephanie), Hayden Jones, Hunter Jones (Evelyn), Cole Faulkner and Briley Faulkner and great granddaughters Sophia Faulkner and Abigail Jones.
Mavis was the 10th of 11 children and was predeceased by her parents, siblings and her son, Robert E. Hensley, Jr.
She grew up in Pensacola, Florida and graduated from Pensacola High School in 1944. She also graduated from Stetson University, where she met her husband High School in 1944. She also graduated from Stetson University, where she met her husband, Robert Hensley. They were married in 1948 and came to Bradenton after he finished law school in 1950 and has lived here since. She is a former member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was involved in other church activities for many years. She taught at Manatee High School from 1972- 1982. She was a member of Northwest Baptist Church and has served on the Honorary Board of Guardian Angels and the Salvation Army .She was a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ and loved her family and friends deeply.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 18,2026. Visitation will be before the service from 10-11 at Northwest Baptist Church, 7913 9th Avenue NW, Bradenton. Services will begin at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory made be made to Northwest Baptist Church, Guardian Angels (1429 60th Avenue West, #200, Bradenton, 34207), the Gideons International or Samaritan’s Purse.
