Max E. Dilgard, 103, of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away at his home on July 26, 2025. He was born in DeKalb County, Indiana, on February 20, 1922. Max, the son of Wilber M. and Ruth (Foote) Dilgard. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Margaret (Morr) Dilgard. He is survived by sons, Thomas (Cathy Jo) and Michael H. (Karen) and daughters, Sandra (Harvey) and Patricia (Patrick), as well as 5 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren.
As a World War II veteran, First Lieutenant Max E. Dilgard was a bombardier pilot as well as instructor for aviation bombardier cadets. Max enlisted in the Army Air Corp in September 1942 and received his wings April 18, 1944 in Pampa, Texas. Max moved his family from Auburn, Indiana to Phoenix in 1955 where he established a successful family owned construction business. After retirement, Max enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, boating, and travelling in the motor home.
A Funeral service will be held at 9:00 AM, Thursday, August 7, at Hansen Desert Hills Chapel, 6500 E. Bell Road, Scottsdale, AZ. Following the memorial service, interment will take place with Military Funeral Honors at the National Memorial Cemetery, E. Pinnacle Peak Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85024.
