Max was born on June 12th, 1937 and passed away on
April 5th, 2025 at the age of 87Max A. Miller, 87, of Vickery, passed away Saturday morning, April 5, 2025 at his home. Born on June 12, 1937, in Sandusky, OH. Max was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all whose lives he touched.
He was a 1955 graduate of Townsend High School. He proudly served in the US Navy for five years, a testament to his dedication and love for his country. On June 16, 1962, he married the love of his life, Doreen A. Dowdle and she preceded him in death on October4, 2016.
Max was a foreman for U.S. Tsubaki, Sandusky, OH, a chain manufacturing company, retiring in 2008 after many years of dedicated service. Max's commitment to his community was equally significant. He was a devoted member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Vickery, OH, where he served on the council and taught Sunday school. As an advisor for the Townsend Blue Ribbon Boys 4-H Club for ten years and a former member of the Townsend Ruritan Club, Max's influence was far-reaching. He was the head cook for the Townsend Township Volunteer Fire Department Chicken BBQ's for many years, a role he cherished.
Max loved farming and was passionate about his John Deere and Oliver Tractors. Max found immense pleasure in cooking and sharing meals with family and friends. If you were fortunate enough to receive a strawberry pie from Max, you knew you held a special place in his heart. Above all, Max cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Max is survived by his sons Jeffrey (Mary Jo) Miller of Vickery, Brian (Rhonda) Miller of Clyde; grandchildren, Megan (Andrew) Martinez, Jessica (Josh Campbell) Miller, Mark (Elizabeth) Miller, Sarah (Bryce) Chong, Michael (Brooke) Miller, Christopher (Becky) Salyer, Kelsey (Caleb) Arp; great-grandchildren, Marcus Martinez, Oliver Max Miller, Samuel Salyer, Natalie Salyer, Addison Arp, Brantley Arp, Colton Arp, Nora Chong and another baby Chong on the way; brother, Roy (Marilyn) Miller of Castalia and sister-in-law, Joyce Parkhurst of Stockton Springs, ME.
Max was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Marguerite Miller, his beloved wife of 54 years, Doreen, sister-in-law Alicia & Willis Dowdle, and brother-in-law, John "Jack" Parkhurst.
Visitation will be held 4pm -7pm, Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Auxter-Recker Funeral Home, 218 South Main Street, Clyde, Ohio, 43410, and on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, from 10am until time of funeral service at 11am at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church,1320 County Road 268, Vickery, Ohio, 43464. Pastor Tim Loehrke will officiate. Graveside services with military honors will follow at Parkhurst Cemetery, Clyde.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, or Buckeye Hospice, 185 S Main St, Milan OH 44846.
