Maxine Kimmey Obituary

After 98 years of an earthly life well-lived, one defined by faith, grace and love along with a bit of feistiness too our mother, grandmother and GiGi went home to the arms of Jesus on January 15, 2025.

Born December 30, 1926 in Akron, Ohio, Mom came to Tucson when husband Bill (2006) enrolled at the UofA in 1953. They immediately fell in love with our beautiful Sonoran desert, the mountains, and the lack of snow and ice. Years later, mom herself enrolled at the UofA earning her Masters before beginning her "most rewarding" profession as a second-grade teacher at Van Buskirk Elementary.

Mom loved sports and was a passionate Wildcat fan. She also actively followed her beloved Bulldogs of Butler where she had earned her Bachelor's in 1949.

Maxine Is survived by her children, son Bill, and daughters Kelly, and Kathy (Tim); grandchildren, Aubrey (Eleon), Ashley (Alex), Madison (Patrick), Sarah (Rob) and Daniel (Ashley); 16 great-grandbabies; foster-sons Wayne Warren and Marc Rutters; nephew Mike and niece Mary Eberst. Mom and dad also "fostered" many of their children's friends who are still considered family. Their door was always open and their small house was regularly occupied with those who might need some rest, maybe a little guidance, or just some friendly companionship surrounded by lots of love.

A Memorial will be held at Christ Community Church on Saturday, February 22 @ 9:30 a.m. Mom's wishes are for any memorials to be in the form of donations to Gospel Rescue Mission.

My parents, Jack and Mary Cole, were friends with Bill and Maxine back in the 1960s. I have memories of the families doing church-related and other activities together. Rest in Peace, Maxine. My condolences to her son Bill, his sisters, and the entire family.
