Maxine Phillips Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by David Lee Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Dec. 26, 2025.
Eloise Maxine Thompson Alexis Phillips, 1921 - 2025
Maxine A. Phillips, of Plymouth, MN passed away in November 2025, just short of turning 104. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, and friend, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Maxine was born in 1921 to Myron Danford Thompson and Emma Sophia Swanson, and was the youngest of seven children. Her brothers Roy, George, Maurice, Neil, Myron, Jr., and Floyd all preceded her in death.
Her family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska from Litchfield, Nebraska when Maxine was one year old. She received all her education in Lincoln at Sheridan Elementary School, Irving Junior High School, Lincoln High School, and the University of Nebraska.
At the University she was a member of the Palladian Literary Society where she met Harold Alexis, whom she married. Lt. O. Harold Alexis was killed in action in World War II. He was survived by his wife Maxine and their 5-month-old daughter Tommie Jean.
After returning to the University of Nebraska, Maxine received her B.S. degree in Business Administration. She then worked for the Veterans Administration for four years. She met and married lawyer Edward Phillips. After moving to Omaha, they added a daughter, Barbara Jane, to the family. Maxine lived in Nebraska for her first 78 years.
Maxine was very involved in church activities. Over the years she served as a Deacon, Elder, and Stephen Minister. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs, and was active in Bible study and services at SummerWood of Plymouth. Maxine was an active member of P.E.O. for over 65 years. She spent many happy hours gardening. Her raspberry patch was extensive and provided delicious treats to her family and friends. An avid game player, she particularly liked playing bridge, cribbage, and Rummikub right up until her passing. She also enjoyed knitting from the time she was a young child. She was an accomplished baker and her family enjoyed her famous cinnamon rolls.
Family and friends were incredibly important to Maxine. Even at 103 she kept up a regular email and written correspondence. Maxine is survived by two daughters, Tommie Wise (Fred) and Barb Rasmussen (Mark), five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and two great-great-granddaughters. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and many friends who were faithful and sent emails often. Maxine was preceded in death by her devoted husbands Harold Alexis and Edward Phillips. Maxine's memorial service will be held at SummerWood of Plymouth on Friday, January 9, 2026 at 10 AM Central. The service will also be livestreamed at https://vimeo.com/event/5591315?fl=so&fe=fs The family invites all who knew her to attend and share their favorite memories at the reception following. She will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling.
