Maynard Ray Watson, age 80, of Sutherland, VA, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2024.
Born and raised in Kenbridge, VA, he was the son of the late James and Zelma Parham Watson. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, James “Rabbit” Watson and Randy Watson.
Maynard served in the U.S. Army for three years, stationed in Anchorage, AS. He retired from VDOT as a State Inspector after 30 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cutting grass. Maynard was a longtime member of the Bagley Mill Hunt Club in Kenbridge. Most of all, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren and his dog “Pebbles.”
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Vicky Moore Watson; his daughters, Christie Watson Spade and Brandi Watson; step daughter, Michelle Knott (Oscar); step-son, Jason Burton (Ashley); grandchildren, Brycen Moon (Austin), Brayden Spade, Camden Spade, Zayne Zoldork, Caroline Knott, Lilah Knott, Carter Burton and Tenley Burton; great-grandchildren, Murphie Moon and Maeson Moon; a brother, John Watson (Pat); and a niece, Molly Bowles (Tim).
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 30, 2024 at Ocran United Methodist Church, 20221 Cox Road, Sutherland, VA 23885, followed by interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday also at the church.
