McArthur Johnson, affectionately known as "Mac" and "Big Mac," passed away peacefully on March 3, 2025, after a brief illness at Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD. He was 80 years old.
Born on May 7, 1944, in Edgewater, MD, Mac was the beloved son of the late Mary and George (Leon) Johnson. He was educated in the Anne Arundel County school system and attended Wiley H. Bates High School in Annapolis, MD.
A hardworking man with a passion for the open road, Mac was a dedicated truck driver and entrepreneur. In the 1970s, he owned and operated his own dump truck business, later driving for several companies, including Deer Park, Waugh Chapel Towing, Serv-Pro, and others throughout his career.
Beyond his work, Mac found joy in simple pleasures. He was an avid card player, often joining "the fellas" at The Morris H. Blum Senior Apartments for friendly games. He also cherished time spent fishing with his family and friends. A man of generosity, Mac gave back to his community by volunteering at The Morris H. Blum Senior Apartments, where he played music for residents during various events.
Mac leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory: his children, Tershia Knight (Leonard), Cassaundra Johnson, Anthony Cook (Tephanie), and Kenya Johnson; seven grandchildren, Kahjuan Prue-Hill (Emmette), Leonard Knight (Ashleigh), Anthony Cole (Jayne), Remi Dennis, Kendria Prue, Joshua Johnson, and Kendra Drones; and eight great-grandchildren, Anthonique Grant, Nea'la Prue, Emmette Hill III, Kayden Hill, Kynlee Prue, Anthony Cole, Kennedy Knight, and Noemi Knight. He is also survived by his two sisters, Nancy J. Russ and Linda Robinson-El; two sisters-in-law, Helen Sharps and Shirl Johnson; his devoted niece, April Brown; and two dear friends, Stacey Jones and Don Switzer, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and cherished friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George (Leon) and Mary C. Johnson; his brothers, Francis (Vanny) Sharps, Marshall (Butch) Johnson, and Leon (Elroy) Johnson; and his sisters, Dorothy (Jennet) Jones, Joyce Brown, and Sherry Ann Johnson.
Mac's warmth, humor, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends will be deeply missed. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Rest in peace, Mac.
