Medford G. Luckey age 98 passed away at his place of residence in Wewoka in the early morning hours of August 20, 2025 with his wife by his side. He was born in Springfield, Illinois on April 6, 1927 to Louis and Lotus Luckey of Curan, Illinois. Growing up during the depression era in a poor home, the tenth child of a family of twelve, he often shared the experiences of his youth to those closest to him.
In 1945, at the age of sixteen, upon his parents consent he enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II where he attended training in Alameda, California as an Aviation Machinist Mate. Upon completion of his training, he was shipped out to Midway Island eventually joining his command aboard the aircraft carrier USS Boxer (CV-21). Many of us will never forget his humerous stories of his adventures in the navy.
After his release from the Navy in 1948, he returned back home in Curan where he soon met and married Lillie Mae Alinger, his wife and life partner of 77 plus years. While raising five children and living in multiple towns and states, eventually purchasing a farm/ranch in Calvin, Oklahoma and settling there for 42 years raising cattle and catfish, with his outgoing and competitive spirit, they often shared and entertained family and friends in their home with a game of cards, dominoes, chess or just sitting on the patio enjoying life in the countryside.
He is survived by his wife Lillie Mae Luckey, along with their children; Steven G Luckey, Linda C. McKinney, Denise M. Moore and Medford H. Luckey, daughter in-laws; Jean Luckey and Maria Luckey, grandchildren; great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews all of whom will cherish his memory and legacy.
He is predeceased by his parents, all eleven siblings, son: Michael A. Luckey and great grandson: Blake Jones.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN. 38105 and/or Make a Wish Foundation.
