Uecker-Witt Funeral HomeMel H. Streeter, 91, of Fond du Lac, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at Aurora Summit Hospital in Oconomowoc surrounded by his family. Mel was born August 23, 1934 in Fond du Lac, WI, the son of Clarence L. Streeter and Lillian R. (Toll) Streeter. Mel graduated from Fond du Lac High School in 1952.
On September 24, 1955, he married Shirley Mae Brester at Church of Peace in Fond du Lac. Mel served eight years in the Army Reserve units with the 339th Infantry Regiment and the 432nd Military Government Company. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois Home Council and the Academy of Lighting Arts. He was also a State Director for How of Wisconsin (Home Owners Warranty Program).
He was Vice President of Wisconsin Lumber Co. and President of L&S Development Corp. and Woodcrest Corp. He was also a Real Estate Broker receiving his license in 1956. Mel retired in 2003 after 51 years in the same office.
During his career in the housing industry he designed over 1200 homes as a residential designer for Wisconsin Lumber Co. and Woodcrest Corp. and built over 700 homes in the Fond du Lac area with Woodcrest Corp. He was also involved in land development with L&S Development Corp. which developed a number of home subdivisions in the Fond du Lac area also naming a street after the Streeter family (Streeter Court).
Mel was an avid hunter, especially liked deer hunting with his close hunting buddies. He was a life member of Church of Peace, life member of Whitetails Unlimited and also a member of Ducks Unlimited, Ruffed Grouse Society and a Charter member of the Home Builders Association of Fond du Lac and Dodge Counties with Woodcrest Corp.
In his younger days, Mel enjoyed playing hockey and was a member of the FDL Bears Hockey Team. Since retirement he enjoyed golfing with his son and the winters in his Florida home at The Villages. He loved watching the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers. Mel was a loving, caring, devoted husband, father and grandpa, and very proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; his daughter, Sherry (Jerry) Olson of Waukesha; his son, Tom Streeter of Fond du Lac; grandchildren, Mark (Lisa) Olson of Waukesha and Kristy (Michael) Schubert of Waukesha; four great grandchildren, Maelyn, Ruby, Aubrey, and Jonathan. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert Mel Streeter; sisters, Joyce Frank and Florence Mabie; brother, Eugene C. Streeter; his father and mother-in-law, August and Viola Brester; and two brothers-in-law, Richard Frank and Gerald Mabie.
The visitation will be held Sunday, October 26, 2025 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. A private funeral service and burial in Estabrooks Cemetery will take place.
Memorials in Mel’s name may be directed to Church of Peace or the Fond du Lac Humane Society.
