It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Melanchthon Solomon Philip ("Phil"), at the age of 43. Melanchthon passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2024, in Naperville, Illinois. Born on November 17, 1980, in historic coastal city of Guntur, India, he was the cherished son of Raja and Minni Philip. His Paternal grandfather was Nittala Melanchthon Philip, a Gold Medal Physicist who served in the Indian Air Force and was later Deputy Director General of Observatories in India. His maternal grandfather Newton Joseph a retired Police officer who was decorated by the British for his bravery during the Chindits campaign in the Second World war.
Melanchthon was a dedicated and valued member of Motorola Solutions for 14 years after earning a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Northern Illinois University. While at Motorola, he started as a Systems Engineer and rose to the position of Senior Engineering Manager with projects implemented across 6 continents. He was known for his sharp mind, innovative thinking, problem-solving skills, and strong leadership. He has made lasting contributions to his team and to the company. He recently completed his Master of Data Science degree from Northwestern University.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Melanchthon was a man of diverse passions. He loved to travel, explore the outdoors, and engage in activities such as scuba diving, camping under the stars and fishing with his friends. Cooking was another of his great joys, and his culinary creations, whether grilling perfect barbecue or making bread from scratch, turned meals into an occasion for bringing people together.
Melanchthon's greatest qualities were his kindness, generosity, and his deep love for his family and friends. He had the ability to bring life into any gathering that he was a part of. He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, fiancé, and friend. He will be remembered for his warm heart, infectious laugh, and the way he made everyone that he met feel special.
Melanchthon is survived by his loving parents, Raja and Minni Philip; his sister, Sharon Philip; his fiancé, Jillian Kennedy Lundgren to whom proposed to at the St Mary's Basilica in Krakow in July this year, and his beloved dogs, Simba and Leo, who were his constant companions and a source of great joy in his life.
Melanchthon's bond with his dogs was a defining aspect of his character. Simba and Leo were more than just pets to him – they were family. The joy they shared on their many adventures and daily walks reflected the love and companionship that Melanchthon cherished. His absence will be felt most profoundly by his loyal dogs, who, like all of us, will miss the incredible person who loved them so deeply.
Melanchthon's legacy of love, his infectious laughter, and passion for adventure will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched. Rest in peace, Melanchthon – you have set exacting standards for us and your memory will continue to inspire us.

My youngest son, Kyle and Melanchthon used to have a "ritual" they would do every time we went to family dinners, parties, etc where they would come face to face, then they would bend their heads onto the others shoulder, then say some incantation like the Coneheads from SNL. This always made people laugh, as it was weird but loving. I will always remember him in this and all the time we talked about mutual work projects. I and my wife, Elaine will always remember him, and pray for his soul, and the strength and peace for his family and friends who will miss him.
