She was joined in marriage to Paul Regis McGurin in Pensacola, FL, on December 30,1995 and they enjoyed twenty-nine years together before her passing.
Melanie served as an Administrator Assistant at the University of Michigan. She was an avid bird lover and she spent many hours watching them. She also loved collecting owls and always looked forward to adding to her collection. When she wasn't watching birds, Melanie enjoyed challenging her mind solving crossword puzzles.

Melanie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Lorna Heistand, and an infant child, Angela Myers.
At her request, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in Melanie's honor may be made to Elara Caring Hospice.
