Funeral services for Melba Drosche, 70 of Lincoln, Texas, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 9, 2023 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Manheim, Texas with Rev. Thomas Obersat officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday, October 9, 2023 from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Sunday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Melba Gail (Birnbaum) Drosche was born on May 17, 1953 in Giddings, Texas, the daughter of Wilbert "Boots" Monroe Oscar Birnbaum Sr. and Emilie Bertha (Woelfel) Birnbaum. She was baptized on May 31, 1953 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Manheim by Rev. August Horn and confirmed on March 19, 1967 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. Emil Krugler. Her confirmation verse was Acts 16:31, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved-you and your household." She graduated from Giddings High School in 1971. On July 28, 1972, Melba was united in marriage to Freddie Monroe Drosche at St. James Lutheran Church in Lexington. They were blessed with four children, Jason, Angie, Joseph, and Derek.
Melba and Fred moved to Austin shortly after getting married where she worked for Farmers Insurance. She eventually took over the bookkeeping and office responsibilities for their family business, Travis County Drywall, which they have owned and operated for nearly 50 years.
Melba passed away the morning of Thursday, October 5, 2023 at St. David's Medical Center in Austin after a long and hard fought battle with cancer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbert "Boots" & Emilie Birnbaum Sr.; her son, Jason Drosche; her brother, Leroy Birnbaum; her parents-in-law, Gussie & Amanda Drosche, and her sister-in-law, and brother-in-law, Ruth & Roland Markert.
Melba is survived by her husband of 51 years, Fred Drosche of Lincoln; her three children, Angie Alvarado & her husband, Ramon of Lincoln, Joseph Drosche of Round Rock, and Derek Drosche & his wife, Casey of Lexington; her three grandchildren, Shannon, Katie, and Madison Drosche all of Lexington; her sister, Valerie Namken & her husband, Gene of Giddings; her two brothers, Wilbert Birnbaum Sr. & his wife, Barbara of Lincoln and Virgil Birnbaum & his wife, Barbie of Manheim; her sister-in-law, and brother-in-law, Frances & William "Willie" Riske of Houston, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Birnbaum, Willie Birnbaum, Casey Namken, Sam Flores, Glenn Riske, and Carl Berry. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Birnbaum and Michael Birnbaum.
Memorials may be made to Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Manheim, the American Cancer Society or to the charity of one's choice.
