Melba E. Torres was born in Watrous, NM, July 5, 1931, the daughter of Guadalupe Castillo and Ophir Trujillo. She passed away peacefully with family at her bedside.
She was married to Leo E. Torres Jr., who preceded her death July 19, 2021. They were married 67 years. Melba is survived by her brother, Alex Trujillo; one daughter, Patsy Shirey (Tijeras, NM); and three sons, Mike Torres and Ron Torres (Albuquerque, NM), and Leo Torres (Clearwater, FL.); eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Melba loved to be with family. Her determination and strong hands were utterly amazing to see during her lifetime (even near the end). She always made you feel like you had a home to stay and always offered everyone a meal. The casino was her happy place, and she won more than she told us. Once in while she would slip you a $20 dollar bill.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 28, 2025, 5:30 p.m. and eulogies/slideshow at 6:00 p.m., at FRENCH - Lomas.
Funeral mass will be held Wednesday, October 29, 2025, 10:00 a.m., at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5300 Claremont Ave. NE, followed by burial at 2:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. A reception to follow at the Elks Lodge #461, 2430 Centre Ave. SE, from 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
