Melessa Gay Baugus Mitchell was born on October 22, 1961 in Lawrence County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Jimmie Raymond and Bobbie Dean Staggs Baugus.
Melessa worked as a bartender at Savannah Moose Lodge, where she was also a member for 17 years. She attended Holy Baptist Church. Melessa enjoyed going fishing, Jeep riding, going to the beach, and being around the river. She loved her family and grandchildren very much.
Melessa Gay Baugus Mitchell departed this life on June 15, 2023 in Columbia, Tennessee at the age of 61 years, 7 months, and 24 days.
She is survived by her daughter, Latonya Durham and her husband Chad of Savannah, Tennessee; son, Derick Mitchell of Savannah, Tennessee; sisters, Tina Melson and her husband Mike of Savannah, Tennessee, Debra Davis of Savannah, Tennessee, and Gail Edwards and her husband David of Waynesboro, Tennessee; brothers, Shannon Baugus and his wife Bridget of Collinwood, Tennessee and Jerry Baugus and his wife Jonell of Waynesboro, Tennessee; grandchildren, Gage Durham, Maylee Mitchell, and Maci Mitchell; and 3 lifelong friends, Shannon Cummings, Cody Sweat, and "Fluff" Jones.
In addition to her parents, Melessa was preceded in death by her brother in law, Steve Hubbard.
