Melinda S. “Mindy” Elmer, 63, of Lititz, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, died Saturday, April 26, 2025 at the Lancaster General Hospital with her family by her side. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of Frederick E. Bear of Lititz, and the late Jeanette Bender Bear. She was the loving wife of Mark A. Elmer and they would have observed their 44th wedding anniversary in June of this year. Mindy was a 1979 graduate of Warwick High School, and continued her education receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from Elizabethtown College. She later added certifications in secondary education and English as Second Language (ESL). Early in her life she worked as an office manager for the former L & K Plumbing Company, Lititz. Mindy, a life-long learner and teacher, would be found teaching and tutoring in various capacities throughout both public and private schools, helping students of every ability. She was a freelance writer for the Lititz Record Express, and the Ephrata Review. Mindy was an active and faithful member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, Lititz; where she served as leader of the Church Quiz Team, Youth Group, Peanut Butter Egg Mission Project, and Vacation Bible School. She was an active volunteer for Historic Schaefferstown. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, knitting, and home sewing, even designing and sewing her own wedding gown. Mindy had a deep and abiding passion for her family. She cherished every moment she could spend with her husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family. Her genuine love and kindness was evident to every person she met.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Mark, and father, Fred, are five sons: Michael E. Elmer of East Petersburg, Matthew A. husband of Laura Elmer of Lititz, Brian A. husband of Tylar Bear of Kershaw, SC, M. Stephen “Piet” husband of Elizabeth Elmer of Virgina Beach, VA, Mitchell A. husband of Angie Elmer of Lebanon, ten grandchildren, a brother, Lyndon F. husband of Charlotte Bear of Robesonia, and a sister, Jennifer M. wife of Joe Iacono of Lititz.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Mindy’s funeral service at Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, 44 East Orange Street, Lititz, on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 10:30 A.M. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Friday evening from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., with additional visitation on Saturday morning from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service. Interment will be in Trinity Cemetery, Bomberger Road, Lititz. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Mindy’s memory to: Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, P. O. Box 211 Lititz, PA 17543.
