Melissa Mae Kouns Stephenson (Missy), 66, beloved wife, mother, Mimi, sister and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 4, 2025, leaving a void her family cannot fill.
Missy was born in Ashland, KY in 1958 to the late Thomas and Dovetta Stith Kouns of Flatwoods, KY. Missy attended Russell High School before marrying the love of her life, Raymond, with whom she was married to for more than 48 years.
Missy was a devoted mother to Josh Stephenson(Rebecca) of Versailles and Jeremy Stephenson(Stefany) of Raceland, her prides and joy. She was always a proud and protective mother, and they felt that in the love and support she provided.
Missy took special joy in being Mimi to Kaelyn, Dylan, Eily, Xavier and so many other kids that adored her. She always loved having the grandkids and their friends at the pool where she could hear the joy in their voices.
Missy was a loyal sister to Tom Kouns(Marissa) of Flatwoods, Tim Kouns(Kelly) of Leavenworth, Betty Jo Jackson(Greg) of Berea, and her two bonus sisters, Stephanie Morris and Mary Fugate.
Missy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Robert (Bobby) Kouns, her precious granddaughter, Elia Ryann Stephenson, her sister in-law, Wanda Smiley(George), brother in-law, Cecil Stephenson(Jennifer) and several angel grandbabies whom she now holds in Heaven. In addition to her husband and family, she is also survived by her in-laws, Lorena Spainhower(Jack), Bonnie Keeton(Jim), Betty Smith(Bob), David Stephenson(Marilyn), and Glen Stephenson(Nancy), who will never forget the love she brought to their lives.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Thursday, November 6, 2025 at Music Family Funeral Home in Greenup. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Friday, November 7, 2025 at Greenup First Baptist Church with Dr. Thomas J. Melvin and Reverend Glenn Stephenson officiating. Burial will follow services in Stephenson Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Kentucky Organ Donar Foundation. Online condolences may be offered at www.mfhfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Music Family Funeral Home in Greenup.
