Melissa V. Watts, 58, of Millsboro, DE passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born on May 5, 1964 in Wilmington, DE to James Bentham Varley and Kaye Evelyn Huxtable.
Melissa was proud to have served her country in the U.S. Army. She held several positions including at the Cheer Center in Ocean View, DE and most recently a custodial role through Easterseals at the Sussex County Courthouse where she made many friends.
As an animal lover, she was passionate about rescuing animals of all kinds and making them apart of her family. She also enjoyed watching Turner Classic movies, reading and the Beatles. Melissa was also sports fan and followed basketball and football. After her diagnosis with breast cancer, she became very involved with the Cancer Support Community of Delaware.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Bentham Varley and her step father, William Kellam. Melissa leaves behind her husband, Garney "Jay" Watts; mother, Kaye Evelyn (Huxtable) Kellam; brother, Morgan Varley; sister, Megan Varley; step sisters, Sharon Quinn and Susan Broussard; two nephews, Tim Miller and Noah Varley; a niece, Savannah Quinn and a great nephew, Cole Miller.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 PM on Friday, January 20, 2023 at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Rd., Millsboro, DE where friends and family may gather after 11:30 AM. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Melissa's name to the Brandywine Valley SPCA by visiting www.bvspca.org or the Cancer Support Community of Delaware by visiting www.cancersupportdelaware.org
