On the evening of Wednesday, July 2, 2025, Melody Faye Gibbons Peeks departed this earthly life and entered the gates of Heaven.

Melody (Mel) was born on June 8, 1951 to Emory and Mary Young Gibbons, the seventh of eight children. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior very early in life and was christened at her family church, Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Church, in Rockmart, Georgia, where she remained active and in-touch, until death.

Mel received her education in the Rockmart School System and was one of the first black students to attend Rockmart High School after integration. She went on to graduate in 1969 and shortly after married the love of her life. On June 30, 1970, after a two year courtship and long-distance romance, Mel married James (Jamie) Peeks, and to this union three daughters were born: Anieka, Shara, and Treva. She loved being a mother and caring for others became what she did best, even when she was battling multiple sicknesses herself. Having a pure and genuine heart, Mel was ALWAYS willing to sacrifice for others. She was blessed with traits from her mother, never turning away anyone in need, and always embracing your in-laws. She was truly a Christian who lived with grace and integrity

Mel was preceded in death by her parents, Emory and Mary Gibbons; her daughter, Anieka Peeks; sister, Margaret Williams; brother, Donald Gibbons; father-and mother-in-law, James W. and Mattie Peeks; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Lavette, Margaret Banks; brothers-in-law, John Willie Peeks, Larry Peeks, Jerry Creamer, Robert Williams, Harold Williams, Clarence Darden, Robert James

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 55 years, Jamie Peeks; daughters, Shara Peeks and Treva Aldrich (Jason); grandchildren, MeKaela King, MacKenzeye Peeks, and Phoenix Aldrich; great-grandson, Soul King-Drummond; brother, Michael Gibbons (Shirley) of Oceanside, California; sisters, Ocelia Williams, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Barbara Darden, Iris James, and Sherrie Wilson (Steve), of Rockmart, Georgia, sister-in-law, Bobbie Richards; brothers-in-law, Ray Peeks (Emma), and Aaron Peeks, all of Cartersville, Georgia; two very special nephews, Danny Williams, of Forest Park, Georgia, and Bobby Banks, of Rome, Georgia; and her three best friends from childhood, Ms. Meredith Tolbert of Rockmart, Georgia, Mrs. Nancy Lowery, of Villa Rica, Georgia, and Mrs. Gwendolyn Hudson of Rockmart, Georgia.
