Melvin Youle Barner of Belle Plaine, Kansas went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 29, 2024, at the age of 87. He was born on April 7, 1937 to Merle and Marie (Reeves) Barner in Wellington, Kansas. On May 17, 1957 he married Marilyn Schmidt in Belle Plaine, Kansas. Melvin lived his entire life in Belle Plaine, Kansas where he farmed and raised cattle from the time he was a young boy. He loved being outside working the land and feeding his cattle. In addition to farming full time, he retired from Santa Fe Railroad as a brakeman/switchman.
Melvin loved his family and provided well for them. He was deeply involved in his church by helping to maintain the building and caring for the church members. He assisted with the We Care Dinners provided by the church. He was one who never met a stranger which allowed him to impact the lives of many.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Marie Barner; brothers Stanley Barner and Eldon Barner; sister Saundra (Barner) Stanley.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Marilyn Barner; daughters, Debbie (Mark) Baker, Judy (Bruce) Happy, Pam (Craig) Clark; grandchildren, Brent Clark, Megan Clark, Clayton (Sammy Jo) Happy, and Seth Happy; sister, Merlene Barner, and brother, Terry Barner.
Services will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at the Belle Plaine Global Methodist Church at 124 E. 10th Ave. Belle Plaine, Kansas 67013. The viewing will be from 9:00-9:45 a.m. with services following at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Belle Plaine Ministerial Alliance or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
