Melvin Leon Reynolds, resident of Lancaster, Texas passed away on January 10th, 2025 at the age of 85. He was born on December 21, 1939 in Colbert, Oklahoma to Arduth R. Reynolds and Virgie Lavonne Reynolds (Née Reeves).
After high school, Melvin attended Southeastern State College in Oklahoma where he graduated with a Bachelor's and Master's in Education. For most of his life, he was a high school teacher of Economics, World History, and Government in public schools of Texas and New Mexico. In his spare time, Melvin enjoyed fishing and hunting, pastimes he shared with his two sons, Lynn and Wynn, but his passion in life was basketball. A high school basketball coach for more than forty years, Melvin was known as "Coach Reynolds" by the students he mentored over his decades as an educator. For his dedication as a basketball coach, Melvin was recognized by the Texas House of Representatives. Before his retirement from Seagoville High School, Coach Reynolds was awarded a trophy for his more than 700 career-wins. In 1996, Melvin married Tina Reynolds, wife and loving companion of twenty-seven years. In his later years, Melvin enjoyed hosting family gatherings, writing, and watching various sports with his family. Throughout his life, Melvin was a faithful believer of Jesus Christ and always reminded his family not to forget their prayers. All his loved ones will remember him with deep affection, and his warm energy and love will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Virgie; his father, Arduth; and his brother, Gerald.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Tina; his sons, Lynn of McKinney and Wynn of San Antonio; his sister, Cindy McClendon (Byron); and his brother, Eric (Nancy). He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Joshua (Hope) of Josephine and Lyndsey (Jaime) of Berkeley, California; his great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and numerous extended family members who he loved.

Coach Reynolds was more than a coach. He was my family. He helped me grow to be a great basketball player, he had faith in me when it felt like no one else did. He opened his home to me at times when I had no where else to go. There will never be another Coach Reynolds. Simply the best human.

Coach reynolds was my teacher 1 semester in Seagoville High School and let me say his energy was off the charts. Never a dull day in his class and he always had a lesson to teach. Sometimes I wondered if he chose the wrong career because he was so funny and full of life. He was one of those teachers who knew how to reach out and grab you attention. Rest In Peace Mr. Reynolds!

I´m saddened to hear the passing of Coach Reynolds. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. Coach Reynolds was my teacher when I was a senior in high school in 2011. Throughout the years I´ve always wondered how he was doing. I remember his dad jokes, his happy spirit, and how much he cared about his students. He was a great mentor. The impact that he had on my life was immense. I was a scared senior who didn´t know what her future would bring and Coach Reynolds would share encouraging words.
