USCG Master Merchant Captain Timothy Robert Wolfe, age 56, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away on Sunday September 1st, 2024, with his family at his side.
Born May 29th, 1968, in Dennison, Ohio, he was the son of Ronald Wolfe and the late Cheryl (Mickey) Wolfe of Dover, Ohio.
Following in his grandfather Mickey's footsteps, Tim joined the Freemasons Unionport Lodge 333 F&AM. He was also active in the Lions Club and was a longtime member of the Dover Country Club.
Tim always loved entertaining and cooking feasts for his family and all of his friends. His house was the hangout for years of sleepovers for his children's friends, holidays, and Sunday football, cheering on his Denver Broncos. As a teen, Tim enjoyed racing bikes including his Honda 250R and Suzuki 500 quad at Mathias Speedway in Ohio, and Blackwater, WV. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed morel and deer hunting, sharing wild game with friends and family.
He graduated from Jewett-Scio High School in 1986, and later became co- owner of Gippers restaurant in Scio where his beer battered cod became legendary.
After selling the restaurant, he strived to provide a better life for his children, earning his appraisal license in 1996, forming his own company, Wolfe Appraisal &Consulting in 2000. He would go on using this knowledge and experience to become a successful real estate investor.
An early spark for his fascination with the sea was earning his open water diving certification during a family cruise in 2001. He would later earn his advanced open water, and rescue diver certification in 2019.
Tim's devotion to family was demonstrated when in 2013 he moved onto a 50-acre tree farm outside of Mineral City, Ohio. He would spend years fixing up the property, turning it into a retreat for his family, who would gather there frequently. Making fond memories enjoying the wilderness, being brought up the icy hill in the can-am side by side during the winter, illuminating the night sky with fireworks, and surrounding the fireplace fueled with lumber he would harvest and split himself.
In 2017, Tim made the decision to take his passion for the water to the next level by purchasing his beloved 39' Leopard Catamaran, SV Tardis. Setting out from St. Lucia, he sailed most of the Caribbean and all of the Bahamas, almost 2 years of which were done single handing. His last 3 years were spent sharing the Bahamas with Kat and forging some amazing friendships with islanders from Andros to Cat Island and all points between. Tim spearheaded what he coined "Cruisers With A Purpose" which collected boat loads of much needed supplies for the children of the Bahamas out islands.
Surviving are his partner and first mate Kat Watt, daughter Morgan and her husband Cory Litten of Dover, Ohio, son Max and his wife Sara Wolfe of New Port Richey Florida, daughter Abbie Wolfe of Dover, Ohio. Grandchildren Nolan and Oliver Litten of Dover, Ohio and Miles and Amaya Watt of Orlando, Florida.
A private celebration of life will be held at sea, at the family's request.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to "Wishes Can Happen", P.O. Box 9428, Canton, Ohio 44711, or to the Ronald McDonald House East, 401 7th Avenue S., St. Petersburg, Florida 33701.
