Meredith Lynne Smart Maxwell, 76, died at her Hot Springs home on June 14, 2025. Born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas on December 29, 1948, to the late Lynne McNew Smart and Richard Lee Smart, she grew up in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1966. She attended William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri and was a member of Chi Omega. She graduated from the University of Arkansas with a degree in elementary education. She returned to Pine Bluff and taught elementary school for several years.
Meredith was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Junior Sesame Club, and the Junior League in Pine Bluff. She had a flair for fashion, decorating and collecting fine things in particular art and antiques. She enjoyed good food, good wine, was an excellent cook and hostess and loved entertaining her family and friends in her home. Everyone was always welcome.
After her devastating car accident in 2006, Meredith continued to live her life with courage, kindness and grace. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, music, attending concerts and sunsets at the lake. She loved all animals, especially her beloved pets. They were all very special to her.
Survivors include her daughter and son, Meredith Lynne Maxwell and Joseph Richard Maxwell; brothers, Felix G. Smart, V (Tere), Richard Lee Smart, Jr. (Laura), Roger McNew Smart (Julie); nieces and nephews, Madelynn Ross (Jonathan), Felix Smart VI, Corinne Smart, Catherine Schuhmacher (Blake), Jack Smart (Catherine), Laura Beth Shaner (Steven), Roger Smart, Jr. (Sarah), Lee Smart III (Lindsay), Hudson Smart, Scott Smart (Margot) and Grace Ann Chastain (Brannon) and great nieces and nephews, Jonathan, Garrett, Clayton, Felix VII, Peyton, Jack, Will, Mary Catherine, Virginia, Grey, Anna Elise, Jameson, Lila, Mary Mac, Sumner, Hudson, Bo, Henry, Auggie, Carter and Jody; her aunt, Ethel Smart Dunklin and twelve cousins. She is also survived by her former husband, Bruce Maxwell (D'Anna) and their son, Murphy as well as John Seymore who was incredibly special to her.
A private family memorial service and burial will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors of Pine Bluff.
