Merle Mathison, 91, of Walhalla, North Dakota, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at the Pembilier Nursing Center in Walhalla, ND. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Walhalla Lutheran Church in Walhalla. Visitation will be held one hour before the time of services at the church.
Merle Mathison was born October 30, 1933, at Walhalla, ND, to James and Mabel (Arneson) Mathison. He grew up in the Walhalla area where he attended school. In 1955 he enlisted in the US Army and served until 1957. Throughout his career, he managed grain elevators in Walhalla, ND, Wahpeton, ND, Fertile, MN, and Fairdale, ND. He retired in June 1990.
He married his wife of 64 years, Beth Danielson, on February 25, 1960.
His wife, Beth, survives as do their children, Debbie (Lloyd) Lafferty, Jeffery (Wendy) Mathison, and Tracie (Trent) Ivesdal; grandchildren, Troy Lafferty and Lynsey Lafferty, Tarver Nova, Michael Mathison and Daniel Mathison, Larin Ivesdal, Bethany (Jordon) Kuchar, and Allie (fiancé Shad Mack) Ivesdal; great-grandchildren, Zoey Lafferty and Rayden Marion; brother, Arden (Kathleen) Mathison, along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Marlo Thompson; brother-in-law, Glenn Thompson, and stepmother, Alma Mathison.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Walhalla Lutheran Church Furnace Fund and Pembilier Nursing Home.
Interment will be in the spring at Hillside Cemetery in Walhalla, ND.
