Born on February 25, 1952, Merle's life was marked by unwavering love, selfless service, and a keen intelligence that touched everyone he knew. Merle's journey began in Tacoma and later continued in Venice Beach, CA. where he grew up surrounded by his large family and parents, Edgar Elder McDowell and Muriel Lillan McDowell. His leadership was not only admired but also inspired many who had the privilege of working alongside him. Merle was a beacon of love and generosity, always putting others before himself. His selflessness was evident in the way he cared for his family and friends. He is survived by his loving spouse, Leslie McDowell, of Eclectic, AL, who stood by him through life's many adventures. Merle was a proud stepfather to Joey Green and his wife Kannika of Trussville, AL, and Shannon Rich and her husband Kenneth of Cropwell, AL. His 20 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren will miss the stories and laughter that he shared at every family gathering. His brothers, David McDowell, and Pat McDowell, along with his wife Tammy, will hold dear the memories of brotherly love and camaraderie. Merle is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Merle leaves behind his beloved dog, Lucy. Merle's life was a testament to the impact one person can have on so many. His intelligence was not only evident in his business endeavors but also in the thoughtful way he approached life's challenges.
