Catherine Ferrell McDowell of Halifax passed away on August 20, 2025 at the blessed age of 93. She was born in Halifax County on August 4, 1932 to the late Jesse B. Ferrell and the late Iola Lewis Ferrell.
She was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church. Catherine enjoyed watching nature, especially birds and the deer from her patio. Her passing will leave a void to her family and her friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Deborah M. Crotts of Fairfax, Donna M. Davis (Ryland) of Vernon Hill, Sandra M. Thompson of Greensboro, NC and Hugh Watson McDowell Jr of South Boston; seven grandchildren, Ashley C. Nyssen (Adam) of Manhatton Beach, CA, David W. Crotts (Lauren) of Richmond, Travis L. Jones (Lisa) of South Boston, Morgan McDowell of Lynchburg, Courtney Rogers (Flane) of Clover, SC and Mary Catherine White (Jeremey) of Elizabethtown, NC; ten great grandchildren; one sister, Ellen Elliott of South Boston, and host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Brittany Jones
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
