Merrilee Jarvis Obituary

Visit the Nelson Family Mortuary website to view the full obituary.
It is with both sorrow and celebration that we mark the passing of Merrilee Ellen Jarvis, who graduated peacefully from this life on September 29, 2025 after an 18 month battle with ALS. Born in Blackfoot, Idaho, on January 1, 1972, Merrilee was a beacon of love, light, dedication, humility, and faith. Her life was a testament to the scripture "Charity never faileth" (Moroni 7:46). She lived this verse daily, making all she encountered feel special and loved. To know her was to love her.

Merrilee was a devoted wife to Scott Jarvis, whom she married on June 13, 1997 in the Idaho Falls Temple, and a loving mother to Spencer (Jessi) Jarvis, Andi (Jacob) Nolan, Alyssa (Allen) Jones, Sydney Jarvis, and Austin Jarvis, and grandmother to Joanna and Eliza Jarvis. Her five children, whom she often declared her greatest accomplishment, were a reflection of her loving and nurturing spirit.

Merrilee was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her whole life, and served diligently in many callings, including an 18 month mission to Hungary. She volunteered often at her children's schools and was involved in the elementary, middle, and high school PTA. Her hobbies, which included singing, reading, hiking, cheering on BYU sports, and spending time with family, mirrored her zest for life and passion for shared experiences.

Beyond her immediate family, Merrilee's love encompassed a large and loving extended family. She is survived by her brothers DaLon (Lisa) Esplin, Tye (Gale) Esplin, Brent (Kari) Esplin, sisters Gay (Randy) Ewell, Jeanette (Ed) Merrifield, and their families. Merrilee was preceded in death by her parents, Dalyle and Jean Esplin, and her nieces Erica Summers and Kailsie Esplin.

Her life and memory will be honored with a night viewing at the Provo West Stake Center, 2530 W 200 S, Provo, Utah, 84601, on Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 6:00-8:00pm MDT. The day viewing will take place at the same location on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 9:30am MDT, followed by the funeral service at 11:00am MDT.

In celebrating Merrilee's life, we invite you to share your memories and upload photos on her memorial page. Your stories and tributes will serve as a testament to the life Merrilee lived and the countless lives she touched. Her spirit will live on in our hearts and through our memories, a testament to a life well-lived.
