Theron Haws Obituary

Visit the Nelson Family Mortuary website to view the full obituary.
As his loving wife of 55 years, I, Karen and my family, are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of our beloved husband and father, Theron "Kay" Haws, or "Opa" as he was affectionately known by his grandchildren and many others. Kay was born in Provo, UT, on May 29, 1943, and lived there for all of his 82 years. As a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served a two and a half year mission in the Southwest Indian Mission where he spoke fluent Navajo. His faith was unyielding, even when he fell ill with a heart condition during his mission. After receiving a blessing from Elder Spencer W. Kimball, he made a full recovery, fulfilling his mission and living a testament to the scripture, "With God, all things are possible." (Matthew 19:26)

Kay was a master electrician. His dedication and hard work earned him recognition as one of the top electrical inspectors in the state of Utah. He retired in 2005 from Pacific States Cast Iron Co. after a significant occupational accident. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was a man of many passions. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, hunting, fishing and tying his own flies for fishing the Provo river. He relished in the simple pleasures of life, like BBQ's up the canyon or collecting honey with his grandfather when he was a child. He was also an active member of the Boy Scouts of America and the NRA. He met the love of his life, square dancing at BYU with the Y Squares. Their dance of love continued for all these years.

His greatest joy was his family. His love and commitment to us were unwavering, always doing what was necessary to ensure we were provided for. He is survived by his Sister Valarie, Brother Phillip, Wife Karen, Sons T. Keith (Diana), Jonathan (Stefanie), Christopher (Tiffinee), Alexander (Lori), Richard (Veronica), Shaun (Brittany), and Daughters Laralei (Brian) Jensen, Melissa (David) Ostberg. 24 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Theron Haws and Betty May Roper Hunter. As we remember Kay, we are reminded of his favorite scripture, John 3:16- "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not parish, but have everlasting life." His love for his family, God, and country will never fail.

We invite you to join us in celebrating Kay's life. A viewing will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025, at 4:00pm MDT at the Nelson Family Mortuary, followed by the funeral at 5:00pm MDT and a luncheon at 6:00pm MDT. His inurnment will take place on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 10:00am MDT at the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park. Please join us in honoring this remarkable man.

In memory of Kay, feel free to share your stories, photos, and fond memories on his memorial page. Your tributes will serve as a comfort to us all during this difficult time.
