Meta Kay was born July 4, 1943, in Gilmer, Texas, to Horace Jay Spencer and Jane Barbara Purcell Spencer and passed from this life on June 14, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Meta Kay worked for the Upshur County Appraisal District for many years before her retirement. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Ben Ward and Bradley Ward; sister, Clara Jo Newman; and her grandson, Jaylen Ward.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Jane Spencer; brothers, Perry Spencer, Hargus "Rusty" Spencer, Harold "Dink" Spencer, and Jack Spencer; sisters, Sarah Marsh, Billie Spencer, and Beverly "Belle" Hairston; and her sons, Barry Jayson Ward, and Brent Lee Ward.
Pallbearers will be Bradley Ward, Geary Loyd Newman, Ray Settles, Kenneth Spencer, Dean Fowler, and Fred Ward.
