Shirley A. Taylor, a longtime educator and beloved member of the Gilmer community, who passed away on August 10, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on February 28, 1944, in Freeport, Texas to Robert and Margaret (Roach) Insall.
Shirley dedicated her life to inspiring and nurturing the minds of countless students during her 39-year career as a teacher at Gilmer Independent School District. Shirley's life was marked by a deep commitment to education and an unwavering dedication to her students.
Shirley was also a devoted member of Soules Chapel Methodist Church, where her faith and kindness shone brightly.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Beth Austin and 4 grandchildren, Garrett, Dakota, Hunter and Kristina.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Alonzo Taylor and daughter, Belynda Darlene Taylor Hillin.
Services to honor Shirley will be held on August 16, 2025, at Soules Chapel Methodist Church in Gilmer, TX. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment will be held at Soules Chapel Cemetery.
