Memorial services for Jim Thompson, 89, of Gladewater, Texas, will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, September 1, 2025, in the Chapel of McWhorter Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm prior to the service. Jim was born on October 8, 1935, to Andrew William Thompson and Lorene Rowe Thompson, and passed from this life on August 26, 2025, at home surrounded by his family. Jim proudly served our country in the United States Air Force. He married Evelyn Brunner on November 23, 1966, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Jim was a Baptist minister at Stanley Union Church for over 20 years. He enjoyed spreading the word of God through pastoral visitations, teaching Sunday School, Bible studies, and mission trips. Jim was most proud of baptizing his grandchildren. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Andrea Briscoe (Scott), and Roxanne Piatt (Andrew Mitchell); 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn Thompson; son, James Allen Thompson; three brothers, and two sisters. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to Stanley Union Church, 14 Kinsell Avenue West, Stanley, New Mexico, 87056.
