Michael Absher Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes - Durand Chapel on Apr. 29, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rev. DJ Michael A., affectionately known as the Duke of Downtown, who left this earthly plane to DJ and dance the night away at the Big Disco in the Sky. Michael Scott Absher, born on May 28, 1966, in Flint, Michigan, was a beloved son, brother, and friend whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many.
Michael was a multifaceted individual, embracing a variety of passions throughout his life. He was a theater major with a flair for the dramatic, a devoted lover of cats, a bleeding heart, a girl smoocher, and a cherished friend to all who knew him. His playful spirit shone through in his love for Dungeons & Dragons, his poetic and writing talents, and his work as an electronic musician under the name Albadore. As a producer and engineer at WFBE-FM and a longtime employee of Bogner Sound, Michael's contributions to the local music scene were immeasurable.
It was his profound love for music that defined Michael's legacy. His journey as a DJ began when his cousin, John, invited him to join a few gigs at the University Brewery. This spark ignited a passion that would flourish for over 40 years, allowing him to share joy and connection with thousands of people through the universal language of music. Michael's infectious enthusiasm and warmth made every event he graced a celebration of life, love, and community.
Michael's greatest trait was his boundless heart. He was a lover who never knew a stranger, spreading joy and kindness wherever he went. The sweet little boy he once was never faded; instead, he blossomed into the world's sweetest, self-proclaimed old man DJ, leaving a legacy of love that will resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.
Michael is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Sheryl Absher; his grandparents, Lucille and August Cornelius, and Idora and Don Absher; his cousins, Thomas and John LeClaire; and his Uncle and Godfather, Lionel LeClaire. He is survived by his father, Donald Absher; his sister, Jennifer Absher; his Aunt Brenda LeClaire; cousins Ann and Joseph LeClaire; and a multitude of friends who cherished him deeply.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, details of which will be announced. In the spirit of Michael's love for music and community, we invite all who knew him to join in honoring his memory and the joy he brought to our lives.
Rest in peace, dear Michael. Your music will play on in our hearts forever.
