In Loving Memory
On Saturday, November 1, 2025, Michael Oladipo Adebayo transitioned to his final journey.
Born on September 9, 1945, in Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria, Michael was the beloved son of Pa Adebayo Ogunlade and Madam Florence Adegbolagun. He was a one-of-a-kind man with an inquisitive mind and a generous spirit. As the oldest of six siblings and one half-sister, Michael carried a natural sense of responsibility and warmth throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his brother Remigius Oluyemi Adebayo, and his sisters Bosede Femi Harrison and Catherine Adejoke Ajayi.
He leaves to cherish his memory his sisters Veronica Modupe Oso, Regina Dolapo Falomo, and half-sister Cecelia Anike Adegoke; his devoted wife Gloria Yvonne Adebayo; and his loving daughters Cristina and Michelle Adebayo. He will also be deeply missed by sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, countless cousins, and a wide circle of friends.
Michael was passionate about his family, writing, taking photos, exercise, healthy eating, foreign vehicles & life itself. He was a man of faith and a proud member of The Knights of Columbus. He could usually be seen with a grin on his face and ready to crack a good joke.
Education
Michael pursued higher education with deep passion and discipline. He proudly graduated from University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria (c. 1974) and later achieved a Master of Urban Planning, December 16, 1975 from Wayne State University.
He began his professional path as a Senior Planning Officer for the Federal Capital Development Authority in Nigeria before establishing his career in the United States.
Professional Work
Michael's early career included teaching English and coaching soccer at St. Louis Grammar School, an all-girls institution in Nigeria.
After immigrating to the United States, he served as an instructor at Wayne County Community College and as a guest lecturer for Wayne State University's Graduate Program.
He devoted more than 30 years of service as a City Planner for the City of Detroit, where he applied his vision, expertise, and commitment to the development of a city he loved deeply.
Charitable & Volunteer Service
• Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus
• Detroit Grand Prix Volunteer participant for over 20 years
• Focus HOPE Walk participant, where Michael walked alongside fellow parishioners and friends to eradicate injustice, poverty & racism.
