Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chas. Verheyden, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Grosse Pointe on Nov. 6, 2025.
Thomas Ross "Tom" Kneeshaw passed away on October 30, 2025, at the age of 85 in Detroit, Michigan. Born on December 28, 1939, in Toledo, Ohio, he was the beloved son of Byron Ross Kneeshaw and Isabel Elizabeth Kneeshaw (née Walters). Tom was known for his gentle spirit, easy humor, and the kindness he extended to everyone he met. He will be deeply missed.
Tom grew up in Toledo and later made Detroit his lifelong home. He studied at Wayne State University receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree. He spent many years working for the City of Detroit, where he was admired not only for his dedication but also for the friendships he formed along the way.
Family was at the center of Tom's life. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sheila Wade Kneeshaw; his sisters, Susan Kneeshaw Gundy and Mary Kneeshaw Denton; his daughters, Rachel Kneeshaw Marler (Nate), Lisa Washington, and Lori Wade. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Madeline Marler, Benjamin Marler, Tierra Williams (Montaegoe), and Destiny Wade, and a delighted great-grandfather to Braylin, Mahari, and Lorena. Each of them carries memories of Tom's steady love, quiet encouragement, and warm presence.
Also enjoying his memory are his sisters-in-law; Dianne Wade Sloss (Merfreno), Sharon Wade Byrd (Johnny), Rosalyn Tucker, and brother-in-law Samuel Wade (Vanessa) and all of his nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tom is preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Foster Kneeshaw; his parents; his brother, Alex Kneeshaw; brothers-in-law Gordon Denton and Glenn Gundy.
Tom approached life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He enjoyed being part of the Grosse Pointe Men's Club, the Indian Village Tennis Club, and the Cadillac Club. Whether bowling, playing tennis, or joining friends for weekly breakfasts and lunches, he cherished the laughter and connection these moments brought.
Some of Tom's happiest times were spent traveling with Sheila. Together, they explored gardens, lighthouses, museums and beautiful places near and far - trips that reflected his appreciation for simple joys, shared adventures, and the beauty of the world around him.
Tom lived with integrity, humor, and an open heart. Those who knew him will remember his warm smile, his thoughtful advice, and the calm, comforting presence he brought into every room. Although he will be missed beyond measure, his family and friends find comfort in the love he gave.
His memory will be carried forward by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A Visitation will take place on Saturday, November 22nd from 10 am until the time of his funeral service at 12 noon at Chas. Verheyden, Inc., 16300 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Park.
