The son of the late Michael and Anna Rivera Alvarez, he was born on April 23, 1977 in New York, New York.
Michael was a longtime active member of the Greenwood Lake Community. He spent many hours involved in the sports programs for the youth in the community. His passion was in basketball where he coached for many years.
Survivors include his children Julianna Alvarez and Matthew Alvarez and his former wife Erin Alvarez all of West Milford, N.J. His uncles Casto Alvarez of Bergenfield, N.J. and James Rivera and his wife Lisette of Las Vegas, NV. His cousins Carman, Adelyn, Manuel, Mary, Margie, Jessie and Chris. He is also survived by his many friends.
Visitation hours will be held on Friday May 27, 2022 from 2-6 P.M. at the Strong Basile Funeral Home 4 Oak St. Greenwood Lake, N.Y.
Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

Truly saddened to hear this news. My sincerest condolences for your loss. Mike was a classmate of mine growing up, and each memory i have of him is dominated by two things: his easy, infectious smile, and the awe i felt watching him handle that basketball. I'm glad to hear he went into coaching. A terrible loss.
