Michael Ray Axsom, 80, of Gibsonville, NC, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025. Born on May 16, 1945, in Eden, NC, Michael was a devoted father, loving grandfather, and cherished friend who enriched the lives of all who knew him.
Michael built a successful career in the textile industry, serving as Vice President of Sales for Gessner Company. His entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly after retirement, as he pursued his passions by owning a classic car parts company and establishing a thriving framing business. Michael was also a talented published author, penning three books that he was immensely proud of: "A Whisper Away" "Making Memories Down South" and "Brotherly Love." His gift for storytelling extended beyond his beloved jokes and anecdotes to the written word, sharing his creativity and wisdom with readers. A man of many interests, Michael found joy in classic cars, golf, and shag dancing. He was also a passionate Civil War history buff and enjoyed watching NASCAR races. He loved his family deeply and he took particular delight in being actively involved in his grandchildren's lives. Michael was known throughout his community for his captivating storytelling and infectious sense of humor. His handsome appearance was matched by his charismatic personality, drawing people to him wherever he went.
Faith and fellowship were important to Michael, as he attended church regularly and was a proud 32nd degree Mason. He cultivated many friendships throughout his life, and his warm, engaging nature made him a beloved figure in his community.
Michael is survived by his two daughters, Heather Wilson and Malia Barrett; four grandchildren, Avery and Sydney Wilson, and Mavin and Axsom Barrett; two brothers, Roger and JB Axsom; and his sister, Linda Corns. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Axsom and Sadie Corns.
Above all, Michael will be remembered as a family man who found his greatest joy in those he loved most. His legacy lives on through the stories he shared, the laughter he brought, and the love he gave so generously to his family and friends.
