Michael John Barren, 76, of Columbus Township, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Henry Ford St. John Hospital, Detroit.
He was born on June 27, 1949, the son of the late John and Betty (Brown) Barren.
His marriage to Carolyn Karnes was on January 7, 1995, in Richmond.
Michael was a dedicated member of St. Andrews Evangelical Lutheran Church in Memphis, where he found community and spiritual fulfillment. He graduated from Sandusky High School and continued his education at Central University, earning a bachelor's degree in education.
After completing his studies, Michael built a career as an automotive salesperson. He worked for Ford and Chevrolet dealerships in Sandusky, Yale, Romeo, and Richmond before his retirement in 2013.
Michael enjoyed spending his free time outdoors, with fishing and hunting among his favorite activities. He was also an avid reader. His love for horses and tending to his farm brought him great joy, reflecting his passion for animals and rural life. For fun and relaxation, Michael enjoyed his role as a pitcher in fast pitch softball.
He is survived by Carolyn, his wife of 31 years; his two daughters, Christine (Craig Heika) Collins and Jennifer Karnes; two brothers, Tony (Martha) Barren and Andy (Lisa) Barren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Dan, Mark, and Brian Barren, and a sister, Rosanna Bowsky.
The family honors the memory of Michael and invites you to visit and share memories Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 10:00 to 12:00 noon. at St. Andrews Evangelical Lutheran Church, Memphis. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon. Rev. Ronald Roland will officiate. Burial will be in Cadillac Memorial Gardens East Cemetery, Clinton Township.
Arrangements were entrusted to Kaatz Funeral Directors, Richmond.
Memorials are suggested to St. Andrews Evangelical Lutheran Church, Memphis.
