Obituary
Michael Peter Bastien, "Mike", age 55 of Huntington Beach, CA died Monday, September 1, 2014 after a tragic accident.
Mike was born on August 2, 1959 in Springfield, MA. He is survived by his wife Wendy Bastien of 30 years and their two children Sarah Bastien and Matthew Bastien all of Huntington Beach, CA. He is also survived by his parents, Ronald and Elinor Basiten of Laguna Woods, CA,two brothers Ronald Bastien of Bayou Vista, TX, and James Bastien of Indian Rocks Beach, FL and a sister, Anne Bastien-Porter of Irvine, CA.
A Celebration of Life service was held Monday, September 8, 2014 at the Seacliff Country Club in Huntington Beach, with a turnout of almost 500 mourners.
Mike a successful businessman in Huntington Beach for many years, President/Owner of Universal Flooring Systems, Inc., private pilot and avid sportsman. Mike enjoyed surfing, boating, waterskiing, flying, golfing, motorcycles, country music, friends, but most of all Mike loved his family.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the American Heart Association in his name.

Dear Mike,
I was never able to meet you in person, but I am lucky enough to know your beautiful daughter, Sarah. I know my dad was there to welcome you to heaven with open arms. Dad's are good like that. They know when we need them and they band together in the right moments. You will be missed down here very much, but we will take care of Sarah. We will be with her as you watch over all of us. Thank you for helping to bring her into this world. She is loved and will miss you always. Please tell my dad hi for me and tell him I miss him too. You two will be great friends.

I was fortunate to have met you and Wendy on one of my visits to Huntington Beach - out on the duffy listening to country music and having a "few" drinks...then playing pool at your lovely home - nice time. I didn't know you like most of the people at your memorial, but I do know your son Matt and what a wonderful man he's grown up to b that is from example! Matt is who he is because of the love and nurturing he had from two wonderful parents! I've seen pictures and heard stories and I can only imagine the fun times! You can rest easy knowing that Matt is taking care of Wendy and Sarah and most of all he will carry on the loving family values when he and Julie get married and start their family!

Dear Mike,
Several years ago, you introduced a popular country song while teaching me how to line dance in the front entry of your house. It was called Good Time by Alan Jackson. That is exactly what I will reflect on each time I think of you. The Good Times. They were few and far between and never included a dull moment.
Your giddy smile was infectious, your desire to want more was inspiring and your effort to make every moment memorable is what drew people to you. We were always guaranteed a Good Time with you Mike, and for that, you will be missed. Life will never be the same without you here on earth, but I know you have made heaven a little brighter. May we all aspire to live a life of passion the way you have shown us. Save me a spot on the dance floor up there.

I can't express how saddened John and I were from the news of your passing. Its definitely surreal! It made me realise how life is way to short and to stay close to those you care about. I am so saddened by what happened just a week ago. It's surreal but what the pastor conveyed is that most of us don't know what the family is going through but God does and that alone is such a comfort. I was startled to open this site and see that Mike was born in Springfield, MA in 1959. I was born in Springfield, MA in 1954 and I am going back there next Wednesday to see my family. I am now saddened that Mike and I didn't get a chance to make that connection. Blessings.......

Michael, my brother, my friend. I love and miss you with all of my soul. As l sit here on my flight home, I am finally alone with my thoughts and grief, I feel my emotions building. I'm terrible at expressing my emotions and thoughts, but I'll try for you. You were taken too soon and had so much more to give and to receive. I wish that I had been so much closer than the physical distance allowed. I never realized how much of your life I had missed until you were gone and I can never get that back. We never had a bad conversation or adventure and we always shared the laughter. I will hold you dear to my heart for the rest of my life. Mike, now that you brothers Ron and Jim have returned home with a heavy heart and your sister Anne is trying to rest after a hectic week holding back her tears so she could prepare a beautiful memorial service for you, I have time to bid you farewell. I wish it had been me that terrible day, I've had a life. You were just beginning to enjoy the fruits of your labor with Wendy, Sarah and Matt. I try to get my mind around this terrible tragedy but I'm lost. You'll never know how much I loved you, I regret not telling you every single time I saw you, but we cannot cross those bridges again. No, our time on this earth has ended and you have left, not because God took you, He loved you too much to be the cause of that tragedy, it was because of a human being senselessly caused your demise. You'll always be a part of me, until we are brought together again by a loving God. I will miss you every minute of every day for the rest of my life. Dearest Mike,
On the day of your "Celebration of Life Memorial", Linda and I wanted to say how we are Soooooo going to miss you..... The times we have spent together with family are precious, the fun we have had is forever in our broken hearts. We will always admire your love for faith, family and your passion for life. Your smile is contagious and your great energy gleamed through. Linda and I were always so excited for the days we planned something together. Whether it was a bike ride to Main Street, a trip to Havasu or a dinner party at your house we were just antsy to be together because we knew how much fun we were about to have. There aren´t words to describe how much you will be missed and the pain we are all suffering but we are also so thankful for the times we had together.
